With the world being a crazy place right now, and many of us stuck at home, we wanted to give you some good resources to continue researching your Camino. There are lots of books and movies and Youtube resources out there, and here are a few of our favorites!
Movies:
The Way (2012)
This is a classic Camino movie that quickly draws you into the story. It shows how the Camino is not only a physical journey, but a symbolic one as well. Highly recommend watching this no matter your reason for walking the Camino.
I’ll Push You (2017)
Recommended by a fellow Camino walker, this is a documentary about a wheelchair bound pilgrim who is pushed along the Camino by a friend. A truly inspiring story of friendship, it shows The Way with all it’s challenges, triumphs and beauty. This also comes in a book.
Footprints: The Path of Your Life (2016)
I recently discovered this while browsing Netflix and I liked it. Seeing the familiar places of the Camino felt like I was watching a home movie. Very touching.
Books:
All the Good Pilgrims by Robert Ward
I think this is only available in hard copy, but it’s a nice little book. Telling the story of one man’s personal journey and the inner discoveries he makes along The Way.
To the Field of Stars: A Pilgrim’s Journey to Santiago de Compostela by Kevin Codd
One Amazon reviewer writes, “Without a doubt, one of the best Camino books I have read since I've begun my literary pilgrimage a year ago” and I couldn’t agree more. I loved this book and it’s available on Kindle.
The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago: The Complete Cultural Handbook by David M. Gitlitz , Linda Kay Davidson
I really like this book because it provides an historical background of the Camino and a good description of the trail. Also available on Kindle.
Youtube:
I was recently talking to a pilgrim who’s going to walk the Camino Portuguese. She mentioned a fantastic Youtube channel by Efren Gonzales. She said she spent a whole Saturday just watching his beautiful drone videos. And she was right, he walks the Portuguese Camino and takes his drone and makes beautiful videos. Check him out here.
