Covid test locations
Need a covid-19 test before you return to the US? As the situation with COVID-19 evolves, it is possible that requirements for reentry into the US have changed from the ones below. Please check the official regulations in place at the time of your trip.
As of August 2021, a negative COVID-19 test is required for reentry into the US. Santiago de Compostela is a good place to get your covid test if that is where you are ending your Camino trip. Best and easiest is to schedule an appointment ahead of time, to ensure that you can get your testing done. However, we have also included resources on the list that allow drop-ins. Most of these are in relative proximity to the Cathedral and surrounding hotels.
If you don’t have time or can’t find availability, you can get your testing done in Madrid assuming you are flying back home from there. Tests are widely available in Madrid, including at the airport. We are listing some of these resources below as well. The Spanish airline, Iberia, links to some of the COVID resources on their site.
Generally, the cost of testing will be higher in Madrid than in Santiago. On July 2021, we used Unilabs in Madrid and the cost of the test was below 40 EUR/person.
Results from PCR tests will most likely take much longer that rapid antigen tests, so make sure you check with the lab when the results will be provided to you. Antigen test results are generally provided to you in less than 2 hours. Emphasize that you need these tests reports for travel (“para viajar”) and that you want the report in English (“en ingles”).
