Camino del Norte tours

The Northern Camino (Camino del Norte) leads you from Irún on the French border, along the northern shores of Spain by the Cantabric Sea until Ribadeo, where it turns inland towards Santiago. This route was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015 and combines both sea and mountain scenery. This route is more physically demanding as the route has frequent slopes. Along the North Coast you will find small villages, majestic beaches, cliffs and small rivers interspersed with the large cities of San Sebastian, Bilbao and Santander.

The landscapes along the Northern Camino are mostly green and if the weather permits, you'll be able to stop and swim at many of the beaches along the way. The opportunities for cultural and historical visits along this Camino are plenty, including Altamira's caves with prehistoric paintings and Santillana del Mar. In the urban centers it is worth visiting places like Frank Gehry's Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, the Magdalena Palace in Santander or San Sebastian's famous La Concha beach.

If there is a Camino route that can be considered a foodie's favorite, this is it. Basque cuisine is famous worldwide, as its Michelin-star restaurants abound with spectacular seafood dishes featuring hake, cod, spider crab or anchovies.

This section of the Camino del Norte (Northern Camino) connects the two most important cities in the Basque Country, known for its fantastic food and impressive landscapes. This route will have you traveling along picturesque fishing villages on the Cantabric seashore and also through beautiful interior mountain landscapes and fertile valleys. Unlike on some of the other Caminos, it is physically more demanding as you will have to negotiate slopes into the mountains.
